This slender terracotta pitcher is a perfect representation of Laureano’s design aesthetic. Being one of the first pieces I discovered by him, this structural ceramic pitcher holds a dear place in my heart. Due to its classic proportions and shape, it serves beautifully to hold a single flower or three and of course to keep water chilled at the table.
Designed and handcrafted by Laureano Melo in the colorful town of Ráquira; well known for its terracotta industry. The youngest of 13 siblings, Laureano learned pottery at a very young age whilst watching and helping his mother - a potter maker, who sustained her family through her artistic skill. Together with his wife Claudia, Laureano later founded his own workshop Laurearte creating distinctive pieces that combine traditional methods with a clean and contemporary design approach, differentiating himself from the pottery making that Ráquira is well-known for.
