Artesol
Don Alcides Vides and his wife Adriana lead Artesol, a family workshop tucked away in El Cedro, a small town on the shores of Colombia’s Ayapel Swamp.
They weave with seje palm, a strong fiber that comes from the very top of tall palm trees—the kind that only grow in tropical countries such as Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela. The fiber must be harvested from the crown of these towering palms, then carefully prepared before it can be used for basketry making.
Don Alcides and Adriana work alongside their children and other neighbors of El Cedro, hoping to build a more resilient community one basket at a time.
